Emma Magidson, Tyler McManus, Jenica Wang, and hailey nathel formed the gadget_gurls artist collective in 2018 to explore their compulsion to make, play, and collaborate. They each have similar backgrounds in art and architecture, and in movement practices such as dance, gymnastics, yoga, broken bones and backs, and general breakdowns.
The @gadget_gurls hope to empower each other and their community to find a sense of realness, brilliance, empathy, and compassion in the depths of a hyper-curated world. With efforts often experimental and seriously humorous, the gurls create networks of art that confront the challenges and complexities of modern, daily life.
Our purpose is to increase accessibility and inclusivity in the art world by producing experiential, interactive spaces and portals to be shared by all.

In her free time @Emma loves not having any free time.
When she is not overcommitted, she is laying on her back on the floor for the entire day. She considers herself a dual procrastination/actualization expert. She is horribly irritable when over-exerting herself physically.
Emma is very spacially aware. She is a skilled editor, designer, sculptor, and curator, always knowing what must stay and what’s gotta go.

She likes experimenting with anything she finds in her nearby surroundings. Anything she can get her hands on is up for grabs—stay alert.
Tyler wonderfully magnifies little moments that are ginormously special and adds incredible grace to any project she works on. She puts farm on table and carries team on back.

@hailey is passionate about her [gender and mental-health] studies through the lens of her identity as a girl/boy twin. Also: lowercase letters, strawberries, the barter system, and ze ocean, le duh.
From digital platform to analog substrate, hailey’s body of work demonstrates how an interdisciplinary practice can collapse into various combos in an effort to combat conformity, support radical subjectivity, and work towards transgressive imagery, as a means of creating ... a more just world.

@Jenica is sharp, precise, and perpetually afraid of becoming hungry, so she plans and packs accordingly. She handles that art like she handles all other business affairs—with reckless abandon.
Sweet sweet Jenig has the capacity to be a lawyer, doctor, engineer, architect, curator, travel blogger, influencer, and fashion icon. In her free time she enjoys taking the LSAT, GMAT, GRE, and MCAT. We’re excited to see where her talents take her.
